These are a selection from the Manifesto of the Monster Raving Looney Party, for General Election 2024. Published by RU Seerius

Rwanda. We will send MP’s who miss-behave to Rwanda.

Immigration. We will replace employees of the Border Force with GP receptionists. This will dramatically reduce the number of people getting in.

The MOT.  The MOT is an annual test to see if your car is road-worthy. We will introduce an ROT an annual test to make sure all roads are car-worthy.

Last month’s meeting

We enjoyed an interesting and popular talk by Graham Mee from The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Graham is a keen photographer of anything that flies, and we were treated to a wonderful range of shots of aircraft and the many birds visiting his garden in Leigh. Graham has equipped his garden with a range of items to attract different species, together with a wide range of bird foods.

“Open Forum” – August Meeting.

Our Members Meeting in August will be a chance for you to raise issues of local and national issues of concern.

In Committee:

Jill Allen-King told us that she had attended the regular C2C Committee meeting which was held in a room at Southend Central Station. No decisions are made at these meetings, but delegates are kept informed of their news.

The new Southend West MP, Mr. David Burton-Sampson has emailed us following receipt of the NPC

Manifesto which we sent to all main candidates in Southend West and Leigh, to say that he is keen to know more about our work.

Bob Howes reported that NPC London Regional Council have suspended the troublesome members of Unite in south London from the London Regional Council. We rejected a Motion from them which was on the Agenda at the June Council Meeting, attended by Issy Isaacs, Jim Folwell and Bob Howes. The AGM has been postponed to a later late, possibly at the September Meeting.

Jean Howes spent some time showing our Committee Members the new PA system, and how it works.

Marketing SDPC:

Jean has contacted The Leigh Horticultural Society to see if we may be able to attend one of their quarterly shows to display our boards and talk to any of their Members who show interest in our Campaign. They have invited us to attend their show on Saturday, the 7th of September from 2pm till 4pm. They usually have up to 150 people there, so we would appreciate support from you if you could check your diaries.

If you know of any local charity or voluntary organisation who may host an indoor community networking event or an Open Day, please let us know. We would be keen to attend to advertise our Campaign and meet other campaigning groups in the area

Campaigning:

Now that we have a new Council Leader, we shall write to him and ask the question about the Councillors electing or appointing an Older Person’s Champion. If no answer arrives, we shall again arrange for one of our Members to attend a Full Council Meeting to ask the question in person.
